The Story of Robin Hood

Robin Hood on Audio Book is great!

The Latest Robin Hood Movie was "Robin Hood: Men in Tights". Previous to that there have been many versions of a person of righteous nature that robbed from the rich to help the poor but the real Robin Hood is totally unknown.

There are theories that abound about the origination of Robin Hood.

Who was Robin Hood?

There are different versions of who Robin Hood was and what did he do for or against the people. Was he a man of royalty that had his authority, title and castle stolen from him while off during the crusades? Or was he a poor man that learned to steal for himself and then began to help others. Or was he many men labeled as Robin Hood just like we label many men John Doe.

The truth will never be known but the theories abound and the persona is used to represent the many things to many people but the most prevalent persona is that of the good man helping the poor and weak.

When Did he live?

It appears the earliest mention of Robin Hood was in 1227 but many thoughts are that he was mentioned as early as 1190 or as late as 1250. Many of the tales or stories about Robin Hood are pure folk lore passed down from generation to generation. Obviously the tales have changed over the years until we now reach into modern tales about him and his band of "merry men".

His arch rival or enemy is purported to be the Sheriff of Nottingham and/or Sherwood Forest. In other tales it is  Prince John that has done him wrong.

Then he is reported to be either a yeoman or a nobleman that has been wrong and with his band of "merry men", reported to total about 140, roamed the Forests and robbed from every one or just the rich. Mostly, as a hero was needed, the various tales show his helping the poor by taking from the rich.

The aide to the poor is how the American market views Robin Hood and his band of men. A good guy that can do no wrong and his arch enemy is the Sheriff of Nottingham, who portrait is that of a dastardly villain. You see we too need our hero's, which may tell you why the newest hit TV series is called "Heroes".

Folk lore captured on Audio Books!

There are many Robin Hood tales and they are based on either historical documents or folk lore or fictitious accounts. So, you take your luck with whichever version you "read".

In my audio book site, there are eight versions of Robin Hood which includes a free taping of an interview with Richard Armitage who plays Guy of Gisbourne doing an interview on the BBC radio station.

Enjoy and review some of the other classics that are sprinkled among the various Robin Hood Audio Books.
